Studying EngD in Biopharmaceutical Process Development Newcastle University [email protected] While studying my Masters degree in Mechanical Engineering I was first exposed to the cell therapy world with a Masters thesis looking at the supply chain and operational challenges facing ATMPs. Fascinated in particular by process development for cell therapy manufacturing, I began an EngD in Biopharmaceutical Process Development, sponsored by Athersys Inc. Firstly supervised by Dr Lucy Foley, Dr Ivan Wall has assumed primary supervision of this project. Project: Development of Multi-Passage Microcarrier Culture Processes for the Expansion of Multipotent Adult Progenitor Cell
My project aims to improve process and product understanding around long-term expansion of MAPCs on microcarriers for large-scale expansion processes. Understanding the impact of these process changes on the phenotypic and functional properties of cells is crucial for effective process development.
